Areas of focus
Individual therapy for the patterns that keep repeating
Individual psychotherapy for adults, in person in Newmarket and virtually across Ontario. The themes below may arise in therapy; they are not separate programs.
Anxiety & Emotional Overwhelm
Anxiety that makes sense intellectually but still takes over emotionally, and the overwhelm that can come with responsibility and pressure.
- Emotional regulation
- Shame and guilt
- Stress related to achievement and responsibility
Trauma & PTSD
Past experiences that continue to carry emotional weight. Deeper processing, including EMDR, is considered when it is clinically appropriate and you are ready.
- Past experiences
- Emotional triggers
- Readiness for deeper processing
Burnout & Perfectionism
Working harder when you are already depleted, and holding yourself to standards that leave little room to rest.
- Overworking and overfunctioning
- Work stress and leadership pressure
- Parenting guilt
Self-Worth, People-Pleasing & Boundaries
Worth that depends on achievement, usefulness, or approval, and the guilt that can follow when you say no.
- Self-esteem
- Body-image concerns
- Fear of disappointing others
- Difficulty receiving support
Relationship & Attachment Patterns
Old patterns that show up in present-day relationships, including recurring conflict, resentment, and distance.
- Relationship insecurity
- Resentment and overfunctioning
- Emotional disconnection
- Difficulty tolerating vulnerability
- Recurring interpersonal conflict
Substance Use & Coping Patterns
Coping strategies that offer short-term relief while creating longer-term difficulty, explored without judgment.
- Alcohol
- Emotional eating
- Avoidance and numbing
- Compulsive scrolling
- Withdrawal or overachievement
Life Transitions & Identity
Changing roles, a shifting sense of self, and the difficulty of turning insight into change.
- Identity and sense of self
- Changing roles
- Disconnection
- Translating insight into change
Substance use & coping
Coping behaviours, understood without judgment
I bring a trauma- and substance-use-informed perspective to therapy. The focus is not on labelling a coping behaviour as good or bad. Instead, therapy may explore:
what the behaviour provides emotionally
what tends to happen immediately before it
what feelings or experiences it helps reduce or avoid
how it affects relationships and daily functioning
what alternative forms of regulation and support can be developed
This may include alcohol use, emotional eating, overworking, avoidance, compulsive scrolling, shutting down, or other behaviours that provide short-term relief while creating longer-term difficulty.
